Overview

Born in the crucible of research labs of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1984, Kopin develops unique semiconductor products that improve the performance of mobile devices for consumer, industrial and military applications. The company's breakthroughs have produced a host of efficient, compact and powerful products that are transforming the way people see, hear and communicate. Kopin's products are protected by more than 200 global patents and patents pending.

Kopin's two product lines are: CyberDisplay ® family of ultra-small liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) wafers. Kopin is the largest U.S. manufacturer of microdisplays, with more than 30 million displays shipped worldwide for a variety of applications including digital cameras, personal video eyewear, camcorders, thermal weapon sights and night vision systems. It is also the world's dominant merchant supplier of HBT wafers for wireless power amplifier (PA) circuits, which have been integrated into more than 1 billion wireless handsets.

CyberDisplay LCDs
Consumer and military products require increasingly higher resolution microdisplays, a trend that bodes well for Kopin's compact CyberDisplay ® LCDs. Kopin's products are the world's only transmissive LCDs that use high-quality single-crystal silicon transistors. They have the world's highest pixel density, allowing the sharpest resolution for their size. CyberDisplay LCDs are manufactured in a broad range of resolutions, including a high-definition TV resolution display comparable in size to a postage stamp. Using optical magnification, however, the CyberDisplay microdisplays can produce large, vivid images equivalent to those generated from an LCD TV. This concept is the basis for Digital iVision™ technology, which enables ultra-portable eyewear for mobile video applications. In addition, CyberDisplay LCDs are the microdisplay of choice for advanced night vision goggles and thermal weapon sights used by the U.S. Army.

HBT Transistors
Quality products and manufacturing efficiency have made Kopin the world's leading supplier of HBTs. Kopin HBTs are the first commercially available vertical transistors (most transistors have a horizontal structure that requires expensive photolithography tools for small geometry). This proprietary nano-structure device enables OEMs to design smaller, lighter and more power efficient products for wireless handsets and networking equipment. Strong worldwide subscriber growth continues in the mobile market, with an increasing percentage of mobile phone sales expected to come from advanced multi-mode handsets that require multiple power amplifiers. Once again this trend favors Kopin with a dominant HBT market share.

Strong Financial Position
The Company complements its strong technology with a solid balance sheet. As of December 27, 2008, Kopin had $100.0 million in cash and marketable securities - with no long-term debt. The Company continues to invest in research and development as it leverages its Wafer-Engineering technology to create a new generation of products for the mobile world.
