Manufacturing Model
Kopin outsources the fabrication of display IC backplanes to Si CMOS foundries in Asia, while performing proprietary lift-off and liquid crystal processes in its factory in the U.S. This fabless model for the display circuitry allows Kopin to take full advantage of state-of-the-art foundry technology, yet keeps costs low by leveraging industry investments and maintaining flexible capacity. The labor-intensive display packaging is done in Korea.

Manufacturing Efficiency
Kopin’s manufacturing model is designed for low cost structure. In addition, Kopin leverages the existing, proven design and manufacturing methods wherever possible for new products. For example, the new color filter product family shares the same design and manufacturing features for different-resolution displays. This enables rapid design of new displays with high degree of confidence. No microdisplay provider matches Kopin’s speed and efficiency of bringing a new product from concept to mass production. In addition, Kopin is in the process of upgrading to 8” Si wafer processing for increased display performance and yield.

Quality
Kopin utilizes highly sophisticated quality control and data analysis systems to constantly monitor and improve the manufacturing processes. This commitment to quality improvement helps maintain Kopin as a leader in the field.
Kopin’s CyberDisplay products have been shipped to some of the biggest and most demanding consumer electronics giants, who accept only the best-quality displays meeting the most stringent criteria. At the same time, Kopin provides ruggedized military-grade microdisplays to the U.S. government, meeting standards that far surpass even those of the commercial sector.

Capacity
The fabless foundry model for the display IC allows Kopin to adjust the demand very quickly, taking advantage of the huge capacity available in the industry. In addition, the 74,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing facility in the U.S. and the 28,000-sq.-ft. packaging facility in Korea provide a large capacity for Kopin to meet the requirements of customers’ needs in the foreseeable future. Since 2000, Kopin has shipped more than 20 million microdisplays for commercial, consumer and military applications. With a growing array of products and applications, Kopin continues to invest in its manufacturing infrastructure for an even brighter future.
