Higher Frequency Operation
Kopin's GaAs HBTs can operate over a broad range of frequencies which are required for many high speed, high bandwidth
applications. Higher operational frequencies enable more data to be transmitted through a fiber or wireless system.
Linearity
Linearity is a measure of signal quality and is crucial for advanced cellular phone systems using advanced CDMA and 3G (3rd
Generation) data phones; wireless local area networks (WLAN); and mobile appliances. These systems use advanced transmission
protocols to wirelessly access the Web and other services. The higher linearity of HBT transistors ensures clear, reliable
transmission of voice and data.
Efficiency
Kopin's HBTs are highly efficient and consume less power. This is critical for mobile applications such as digital cell
phones and WLAN. HBTs can extend the talk-time or data transmit time due to their lower power consumption.
Robustness
GaAs HBTs can sustain higher voltage than silicon-base technologies. Higher breakdown voltages enable power amplifier
circuits to be built with greater robustness to the voltage swings that occur in wireless handsets.
Simpler Design
HBTs only require a single, low-voltage power supply for operation. In addition, HBTs consume no power when they are turned
off, thereby eliminating the switch components needed for other transistor types. Thus, HBT solutions are easier to design,
utilize fewer components and are more compact.
