Kopin Extends its Multi-Year HBT Purchase and Supply Agreement with Skyworks Solutions; Agreement Supports Increasing Demand for Skyworks' Cell Phone Power Amplifiers

TAUNTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 2006--Kopin(R) Corp. (NASDAQ: KOPN), the world's leading provider of heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) wafers for cellular phones and other communications devices, today announced that Kopin and Skyworks Solutions, Inc. have extended their HBT purchase and supply agreement.

Under the agreement, Kopin will supply Skyworks HBT production wafers. The agreement also facilitates the companies' continued implementation of production and development plans to support the growing worldwide demand for cell phone power amplifiers. Skyworks, headquartered in Woburn, Mass., is an industry leader in radio solutions and precision analog semiconductors for mobile communications. The agreement provides for support of a wide range of HBT wafer technologies, including multiple GaAs HBT products, Skyworks' advanced BiFET technology and Kopin's GAIN-HBT(R) platform.

"Skyworks, along with its predecessors, has been our customer and partner for many years, and our relationship has proved extremely successful," said Dr. John C.C. Fan, Kopin's president and chief executive officer. "In today's mobility-driven market, the trend is toward multi-mode phones that allow consumers to use one device to communicate almost anywhere in the world. This trend bodes well for healthy growth in HBT power amplifier markets. Our mission is to maintain our lead in providing the best quality, consistency, capacity and technical advances in HBTs for our partners."

"I am pleased that Skyworks and Kopin will continue to work closely together," said Bruce Freyman, Skyworks vice president of worldwide operations. "In the past few years, we have been collaborating to improve efficiency, quality and cost, all while implementing promising new technologies. It's important to have a partner, such as Kopin, that understands our philosophy and is capable of executing the demanding tasks necessary to achieve success in our industry."

Earlier in 2005, Kopin announced the shipment of its 500,000th HBT wafer. Since then, unit production volume has grown strongly with the increase in the global cell phone subscriber base and the implementation of advanced multi-mode phones with greater GaAs circuit content. Worldwide, Kopin estimates that it has an 80 percent share of the merchant HBT wafer market. The company manufactures wafers from its two production sites in Taunton, Mass., and is ramping its Taiwan-based affiliate, KTC, to provide additional capacity for its global customers.
