Kopin Salutes U.S. Rep. Barney Frank and Senator John Kerry for Funding Enhanced Micro-Image Display Technology

Company's High-Performance Microdisplays Targeted for U.S. Army's Advanced Night Vision Systems

TAUNTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 2007--Kopin Corporation (Nasdaq: KOPN), the largest U.S. manufacturer of microdisplays for consumer, industrial and military applications, today announced that the recently enacted 2008 Defense Appropriations Bill includes $1.6 million for Kopin to develop enhanced microdisplays for night vision applications. The funds were included in the legislation through the efforts of Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) and Senator John Kerry (D-MA), who were supported by other members of the Massachusetts delegation.

"Kopin has an outstanding track record of developing and providing key microdisplays for the U.S. Army's night vision systems," said Congressman Frank. "It is essential that our military has access to a domestic supplier for this critical technology, so I am delighted to support Kopin in this initiative."

The Company's technology is used in numerous high-volume commercial applications such as digital still cameras and mobile video eyewear as well as high-end military applications including thermal weapon sights, night vision goggles, helmet-mounted displays, and other battlefield systems. Kopin's current generation of power-efficient, ruggedized microdisplays have the ability to operate in a wide range of environments, providing soldiers with a decisive combat edge. For the next generation of night vision systems, the U.S. military has asked the Company to develop full-color versions of these microdisplays with even higher performance.

"Speaking for Kopin and our troops abroad, we sincerely appreciate the tireless leadership of our hometown Congressman, Barney Frank, Senator Kerry and the other members of the Commonwealth's delegation in securing funds for this critical initiative," said Kopin President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. John C.C. Fan. "The next-generation night vision systems with high-resolution, full-color capability will offer significantly improved target recognition, providing crucial advantages to our soldiers combating in hostile environments."
