Kopin Wins Prestigious Award for Its Microdisplay in Spy Video Car(TM)

06/14/2007

Company Transforms Nanotech into Child's Play

TAUNTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2007--A microdisplay the size of a grain of rice - integrated into one of the hottest toys of the year - has earned Kopin(R) Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN) one of the electronic display industry's most prized awards. The "2007 Imaging Solutions of the Year" award sponsored by the Advanced Imaging magazine recognizes Kopin, along with Wild Planet Entertainment, Inc. and Omnivision Technologies, Inc., in the "consumer and commercial" category for developing the Spy Video Car (TM).

In developing its kid-cool Spy Video Car(TM), Wild Planet's challenge was to integrate sophisticated imaging technologies into the remote-controlled toy car to generate a fun and exciting experience at an affordable price for consumers. Wild Planet chose the Kopin CyberDisplay(TM) 300M LV, a monochrome active matrix liquid crystal display with a 300 x 225 resolution. Although tiny in size (0.16-inch diagonal), the display, combined with special optics inside the eyewear, creates a virtual big-screen image comparable to that of a full-size TV.

"Your company was presented with incredibly challenging problems and responded with innovative solutions that clearly demonstrated the ground-breaking differences of your technology," Advanced Imaging Publisher Robert Schroeder and Group Publisher Dave Brambert said in a letter to Kopin.

The Spy Video Car is a remote-controlled toy car equipped with an infrared camera; monocular eyewear is worn by the user. The camera mounted on the front of the car sends an image wirelessly to the eyewear, which enables the user to drive the car in light or darkness up to a distance of 75 feet. The Spy Video Car allows children to enjoy the "real life" perspective of driving from inside the car or to play secret agent with night-vision capabilities. The toy has earned several industry awards, including a 2007 "Boy Toy of the Year" award from the Toy Industry Association.

"The competition for this award is intense and we're delighted to receive this prestigious honor," said Alan Richard, Director of Display Marketing for Kopin. "The Spy Video Car is a prime example of how highly sophisticated technologies can be combined with Kopin microdisplays to create imaginative and fun products. The market for Kopin microdisplays is thriving, and we continue to see a wide variety of innovative new applications for our products."
