Kopin and SENSIO Showcase 3D Video Eyewear at 3D BizEx

09/19/2007

The Eyewear Delivers Full DVD-Quality 3D Video

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 2007--Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN) and SENSIO Technologies Inc. are demonstrating 3D video eyewear showing full DVD-quality movies at the 3D BizEx conference. The symposium, which focuses on stereoscopic 3D displays, markets and technologies, is being held on September 18 and 19 in Burlingame, California. The 3D eyewear combines Kopin's BDM-922K binocular optical engine with SENSIO's S3D-220 decoder chip technology.

"We are pleased to have a strategic alliance with SENSIO to provide the solution for 3D eyewear with superb image quality," said Dr. John C.C. Fan, Kopin president and CEO. "SENSIO is a leader in 3D video technology, and major Hollywood studios have granted the distribution rights for their 3D movies in the SENSIO(TM) 3D format. SENSIO and Kopin will work closely to productize the interfacing hardware and software for a self-contained system that allows consumers to enjoy true 3D movies with full DVD quality at home or on the go."

Nicholas Routhier, President and CEO of SENSIO commented: "We are excited to work with Kopin, the leader in providing video eyewear solutions. By incorporating two microdisplays, the eyewear is a natural way to enjoy 3D movies and games, providing the full depth of 3D space perception in an immersive theater-like movie experience. It is a milestone in the 3D movie industry to be able to provide the 3D movie content, 3D movie playback system, and 3D display to consumers in a coherent manner."

The SENSIO(TM) 3D technology is firstly composed of the S3Dcore. This revolutionary digital video process allows for the broadcast and storage of stereoscopic (3D) content, such as 3D movies for home viewing, using the standard 2D video distribution infrastructure. In addition, the SENSIO(TM) universal output technology, called Uniform, allows for the output of the SENSIO(TM) formatted content to any type of 3D display device. The SENSIO(TM) technology is compliant with any compression codec such as MPEG2 or MPEG4. It offers full-screen, high resolution and full-color 3D format compatible with all existing and future distribution channels such as pay per view, video on demand, DTV and HDTV broadcast.

The BDM-922K, the optical engine in an eyewear format in volume production, delivers crisp, full-color VGA-quality (640 x 480 resolution) video, creating the effect of a virtual 48-inch display viewed from a distance of seven feet. It requires only 3.3 V power and video input, in either NTSC or PAL format. Integrated into a lightweight (0.9 oz), self-contained unit (95.6 mm x 22.3 mm x 31.1 mm), the BDM-922K includes two Kopin CyberDisplay VGA displays, backlights, and a pair of 24-degree field-of-view optics with large eye relief (20 mm) and pupil size (10 mm). The displays are precisely aligned both to the optics and to each other for viewing comfort.
