2025 Year-in-Review: Driving Mission-Critical Innovation Across Defense, AR Systems, and U.S. Manufacturing

12/17/25

As 2025 comes to a close, we’re proud to look back on a year defined by momentum, milestones, and meaningful progress toward a singular mission: delivering the world’s most advanced, U.S.-made microdisplay and optical solutions for defense, medical, and mission-critical applications.

From transformative government awards to major production wins, strategic partnerships, and next-generation technology breakthroughs, 2025 positioned Kopin for its strongest era yet.

Here’s a look at the defining moments that shaped this year.

Spearheading the Future of Soldier Vision

In September, Kopin secured a landmark $15.4M Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) award, accelerating our development of full-color, ultra-bright MicroLED displays for next-generation soldier AR systems.

This award strengthens domestic manufacturing, reduces foreign reliance, and addresses a critical gap in high-performance color MicroLED — a capability heavily funded abroad, but essential to U.S. battlefield advantage.

With IBAS support, Kopin is now uniquely positioned to deliver the AR-display systems that will define tomorrow’s ground combat operations.

Strengthening the U.S. Industrial Base Through Mission-Driven Partnerships

2025 brought several key collaborations that expanded Kopin’s global reach and accelerated technology deployment.

Theon International — A Transatlantic Defense Alliance

Theon International’s $15 million strategic investment in Kopin marked a turning point in strengthening U.S.–European collaboration on microdisplay and optical system technologies.

This alliance establishes and expands joint development activities across NATO-aligned nations, accelerating innovation in Augmented Reality (AR), thermal imaging, and night vision systems.

Ondas Holdings — Advancing Autonomous Defense Robotics

Ondas Holdings, a leader in autonomous aerial and ground robotics, joined Kopin’s latest $41 million private placement as a strategic investor, reinforcing shared commitment to U.S. defense modernization.

Through this partnership the companies are unlocking opportunities to co-develop integrated solutions that align tightly with long-term strategic roadmap goals.

Unusual Machines — Onshoring the Future of FPV

A long-standing collaboration is taking flight again. Unusual Machines, known for its Fat Shark FPV headsets, invested in Kopin to help the commercialization of sovereign solutions for microdisplays and optical solutions for First Person Visualization (FPV) for Drones.

With Kopin’s display technologies powering FPV innovation, this partnership aims to strengthen American manufacturing and secure supply chains for first-person viewer systems.

Together, these partnerships form a growing ecosystem built around one goal: delivering capabilities that enhance situational awareness and keep end users, like warfighters, more informed.

Major Defense Wins That Defined 2025

Across the year, Kopin secured significant program wins that reinforce our position as the premier provider of rugged, reliable microdisplay solutions for the U.S. military:

Each award builds on Kopin’s unmatched track record, delivering more than 400,000 defense vision products trusted in the harshest environments on earth and in the sky.

NeuralDisplay™: The Next Revolution in Human–Machine Interface

Kopin achieved key hardware and software breakthroughs in our AI-enabled NeuralDisplay™ prototype, including:

  • Real-time gaze tracking without dedicated cameras
  • Automatic vergence and depth-aware adjustments
  • Sensor-integrated microdisplay architecture
  • Prototype-level AR rangefinding capability

NeuralDisplay™ represents a future where the display itself becomes the sensor, reducing size, weight, power, and complexity for soldier-worn and commercial AR systems.

Medical Innovation in the OR — CR3 Goes Into Production

This year, Kopin and HMDmd began production deliveries of the CR3 surgical headset to Carl Zeiss Meditec.

“Kopin is proud to manufacture a cutting-edge display and optical solution to integrate with the state-of-the-art operating microscopes of Carl Zeiss Meditec, supporting their commitment to precision and innovation,” said Bill Maffucci, SVP Business Development & Strategy. “We believe our advanced display technologies will help drive the next generation of surgical systems, furthering excellence in future microsurgery applications.”

Vision-Tech Roadshow – A Year of High-Impact Engagement

From San Francisco and Long Beach to NYC and Washington, D.C., Kopin’s Vision-Tech Roadshow afforded Kopin executives and team members the opportunity to connect with investors, media, and policymakers — delivering live demos of:

  • MicroLED
  • NeuralDisplay™
  • DayVAS and DarkWAVE
  • CR3
  • Near-to-eye systems for training, simulation, medtech, and battlefield AR

AUSA – The Next Era of Soldier-Worn AR Systems

At AUSA 2025, we briefed top defense media including Soldier Systems Daily, Shephard Group, Janes, and Defence Alternatives, reinforcing Kopin’s leadership in U.S.-made vision systems and the future of soldier optical solutions.

After engaging in over 50 meetings with leading industry professionals, these conversations validated the demand for rugged, domestically produced display systems that support real-time mission outcomes.

A Year Defined by Progress — and a Clear Path Forward

From multi-million-dollar defense awards to groundbreaking AR technology, from new U.S.–European alliances to medical product launches, 2025 marked a transformational chapter for Kopin.

We close the year stronger, more aligned, and more strategically positioned than ever, with momentum accelerating across:

  • Defense programs
  • AI-enabled displays
  • U.S.-based microLED manufacturing
  • Medical wearable systems
  • Strategic partnerships across defense + robotics ecosystems

As we look to 2026, one truth remains clear:

When clarity is life-saving, American innovation must lead. Kopin is ready for the mission ahead.
