REPORTS TO: Director of Business Development
LOCATION: East Coast (preferably Boston or DC area)
Salary Range: $135,000 to $150,000 annually, plus bonus
GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Senior Manager Business Development will lead efforts to identify, qualify, and secure new business opportunities, with strategic focus on augmented, virtual and mixed reality technologies for defense applications. This role is responsible for developing and executing capture plans, influencing key defense customers, and communicating display system architectural trades, lead briefings (internal and external), lead cross-functional capture teams, and successfully close business opportunities that deliver on individual and team growth objectives.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proactively build and maintain a robust pipeline of high-value business opportunities, ensuring alignment with the company’s core capabilities and strategic growth objectives.
- Develop profitable proposals that correspond with the company’s mission and market demands that win.
- Lead proposal creation to capture new program and product opportunities within the defense sector.
- Deliver clear, impactful technical briefings to customers while cultivating strong relationships that establish you as a trusted advisor and industry thought leader.
- Provide a sound understanding of electro-optical (EO), micro-display, digital vision and optical fusion-based system architectures and functions.
- Provide market intelligence that shapes the development of demonstration, prototype and production hardware.
- Inform internal R&D program strategy to align with customer needs and industry leading trends.
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports, Kopin’s mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
- Influence and coordinate cross-functional teams across departments and locations to drive alignment and achieve critical business objectives.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Kopin is a defense contractor and is subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). You must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card holder) to be considered for this position.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, optical, or mechanical engineering or in a related discipline is preferred.
- 5 to 8 years’ experience in a business development or operational leadership role with a manufacturing company.
- 2 to 5 years’ experience in an engineering role, must have taken a product through its full life cycle.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with government contracting.
- Experience interfacing with major department of defense (DOD) prime contractors and familiarity with defense equipment product development.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders, negotiating and closing deals to foster long-term partnerships.
- Contribute to strategy development and execution.
- Outstanding leadership and relationship building skills.
- Demonstrated success in leading and solving problems.
- Innovative thinker to develop new strategies and achieve revenue and growth targets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas and negotiate with customers.
- Broad business acumen and financial skills, including good planning and budgeting abilities.
- Proven performer who can balance multiple priorities and work collaboratively to deliver measurable results.
- A strong bias for action and results is required.
Technical Knowledge:
- Display/Micro-display and Optical Systems Design & Performance.
- Night Vision Equipment Design & Performance.
- Thermal Imaging System Design & Performance.
- Basic understanding of International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
Software Knowledge:
- Must be proficient in the following software:
o Microsoft Word
o Microsoft Excel
o Microsoft Project
o Microsoft PowerPoint
o Sales Force (or other CRM)
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree in electrical, optical, or mechanical engineering or in related discipline is preferred.
- Prior military experience a plus.
Travel:
- Approximately 50% travel required, both domestic and international (regular travel to customer sites, trade shows, conferences and travel as required to Kopin headquarters in Massachusetts and other Kopin facilities).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is performed in an office environment, whether on-site or remotely, and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment. Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages, and other items, walk short distances, and gown according to clean room protocols as required. Ability to travel.
