POSITION: Incoming Quality Control (IQC) Inspector II
REPORTING TO: Sr. Quality Engineer
LOCATION: Westborough, MA
GENERAL FUNCTION:
The IQC Inspector II performs incoming inspections of optical, mechanical, and electronic components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, workmanship standards, and customer requirements. This role independently conducts routine and moderately complex inspections, documents results, identifies nonconforming material, and collaborates with Quality and Engineering to prevent defects, support continuous improvement, and ensure only conforming product is released to production.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (All inclusive or a portion shall apply according to the assigned scope of responsibility and business unit.)
- Perform incoming inspections of optical, mechanical, and electronic components using approved inspection methods and acceptance criteria.
- Verify compliance to engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and applicable industry standards.
- Perform visual, cosmetic, dimensional, and workmanship inspections using precision measuring equipment and microscopes.
- Operate metrology equipment including calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, Keyence vision systems, height gauges, and other precision measurement tools.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Accurately record inspection results and maintain traceability within the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) or ERP system.
- Identify, classify, and disposition nonconforming material per established procedures.
- Support Quality and Engineering by providing inspection data and participating in investigations as needed.
- Maintain calibration awareness and ensure inspection equipment is suitable for use.
- Assist with training Level I inspectors while promoting safe work practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
REQUIRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. As a defense contractor Kopin is subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and you must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card holder) to be considered for this position.
- High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or equivalent
- 2+ years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience inspecting optical, mechanical, and/or electronic components.
- Ability to understand basic technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficient with microscopes and standard metrology equipment.
- Strong ability to identify cosmetic and functional defects.
- Good communication skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of basic math and computer skills (MS Office)
PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience using ERP, PDM, QMS, or electronic inspection documentation systems.
- Review Certificates of Conformance (CoC), material certifications, and supplier documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist with the development and improvement of inspection procedures, work instructions, and inspection check sheets
- Familiarity with sample boards or reference standards to verify cosmetic acceptance criteria
- Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or ISO 13485.
- ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) certification.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, optics/photonics, or semiconductor manufacturing.
- Familiarity with MIL-PRF-13830, ISO 10110, IPC-A-610, ANSI Y14.5, or similar industry standards.
- Experience using Keyence IM Series, CMMs, optical comparators, or other advanced inspection equipment.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience.
- Inspect optical components for scratches, chips, contamination, coating defects, and cosmetic issues using magnification and controlled lighting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequently able to rotate from sitting to standing, lift up to 20 pounds, reach, bend, kneel, walk and gown according to clean room protocol.
**The hiring salary range for this position is $23.00 to $27.00 per hour**
