Assembly Technician – Reston, VA

REPORTING TO: Production Manager
LOCATION: Reston, VA

GENERAL FUNCTION: This position provides some flexibility in the work schedule. Employees can work 4 ten-hour days or 5 eight-hour days per week (Monday – Friday).
The Assembly Technician’s role is to perform manual assembly for opto-electro-mechanical, small assemblies with some equipment, fixture and test equipment assistance. The assembly process will involve multiple applications and techniques. Processes include, but not limited to, mechanical assembly, optical assembly, electronic assembly with electrical connections, bonding parts together, testing partial subassemblies and full assemblies for final inspection. In some cases, products are still in development with limited documentation and the Assembly Technician will need to work closely with our engineering team to address issues in-process, create documentation, and issue engineering change requests.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Primary operator for multiple small parts assembly and inspection within manufacturing in a clean room
· Handling of optical parts and assembling while ensuring Foreign Object Debris (FOD) free
· Perform tasks under microscope using small hand tools and a dispenser
· Conducting Quality checks during and at the end of builds
· Picking parts using picklist and annotation of tracking information
· Ensuring the production area remains a FOD free environment.
· Ability to understand product failures and troubleshoot to repair issues
· Provide hands on assistance, under supervision, on equipment within production
· Completion of documentation for each product
· Ensuring proper handling and packaging for each product
· Good communication skills, ability to work in a team environment

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • REQUIRED: Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident As a defense contractor Kopin is subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and you must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card holder) to be considered for this position.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, plus 2 years of experience in a related technical field
  • Experience with clean rooms and able to maintain cleanroom protocol.
  • Ability to utilize microscope and tweezers for handling small assemblies for extended periods of time.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Excellent visual acuity required.
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions in English.
  • Able to work overtime as needed.

PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Soldering experience preferred/desired
  • Optical Assembly & Bonding preferred/desired

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to rotate from sitting to standing, stand and or sit for long periods of time and able to lift up to 20 pounds. Must be able to gown according to clean room protocol.
