REPORTING TO: Corporate Controller
LOCATION: Westborough, MA
Salary Range: $135,000 to $165,000 annually, plus bonus
GENERAL FUNCTION: The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Corporate Controller as the accounting subject-matter expert for revenue accounting and SEC reporting. This role will provide financial leadership to ensure that the organization has the policies, procedures, internal controls, segregation of duties and systems in place to support organizational effectiveness. The Assistant Controller provides leadership to position the team for long-term success and future growth, leveraging technology to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on complex ASC 606 revenue recognition issues; prepare detailed financial analyses and supporting memos for new contracts.
- Lead and support the monthly and quarterly revenue close process, including preparation of revenue-related journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
- Partner with FP&A, Program Management and Operation teams to ensure proper revenue treatment on new and existing contracts.
- Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules/disclosures – Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow including consolidation with an international subsidiary with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare SEC reporting filings including press releases, Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K and other SEC filings as required.
- Research and analyze technical accounting issues and emerging pronouncements; develop well-supported conclusions and recommendations to interpret and implement new accounting standards.
- Review monthly and quarterly journal entries and reconciliations as needed.
- Provide leadership to strengthen the internal control environment and maintain SOX compliance. Coordinate with internal and external auditors.
- Support operations by delivering custom ERP system reports as requested.
- Act as liaison with external auditors to facilitate audits and coordinate audit support with the broader finance team.
- Participate in accounting system implementations.
- Manage special accounting projects as assigned.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Kopin is a defense contractor and is subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). You must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card holder) to be considered for this position.
- 10+ years of relevant and progressive accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and an active CPA designation.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition standards and experience reviewing contracts for compliance.
- Hands-on experience with SEC reporting, including preparation of 10-Q and 10-K filings.
- Experience with SOX compliance and internal controls.
- Strong work ethic, analytical and problem-solving skills, accountability for results, strong partnership and collaboration, attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
- Visionary, passionate leader with an outstanding track record of achievement in roles of increasing responsibility.
- Advanced Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) skills.
- ERP experience
- Able to work additional hours as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Manufacturing experience
- Master’s degree in accounting or finance
- Exposure to cost accounting and inventory management
- Exposure to accounting for stock compensation.
- Experience with reporting tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
