Senior Cost Accountant

REPORTING TO: Corporate Controller
LOCATION: Westborough, MA

GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for accuracy of the inventory valuation and the offsetting P&L costs. They will calculate standard costs based on budgeted and actual cost estimates and update the ERP system with standard costs. Standard costs versus actual performance are evaluated monthly using advanced cost accounting analyses to compare estimated costs to actual costs and prepare a variety of related analyses reports.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyzes cost information and maintains database of inventory valuations.
  • Determines OH and Labor rates to be used in cost build up using costs.
  • Monitors variable costs such as purchases of raw material, labor, and operation costs.
  • Reviews and analyzes actual costs and inventory fluctuations to identify inaccuracies.
  • Review, analysis, and report on gross margin.
  • Soley responsible for month-end and quarter/ year-end closings.
  • Prepare necessary journal entries and reports.
  • Frequent interactions with business leaders and production teams on questions and or projects.
  • Work together in cross functional team to understand issues as they arise.
  • Identify and work to resolve process inefficiencies or process improvements.
  • Coordinates and plans quarterly physical inventories.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Kopin is a defense contractor and is subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). You must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card holder) to be considered for this position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, 5 years’ experience in cost accounting or manufacturing required.
  • Previous manufacturing experience required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel).
  • Knowledge and experience working in ERP systems (previous Vena experience a plus).
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and control processes.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage confidential information.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
